CURRENT PROJECTS - SUMMER 2010

We continue our business relationship with the Bank of New York Mellon as project and cost managers for the current 45,000 sqft fit-out of space within Queen Victoria Street, London. Other projects are currently underway in Europe and throughout the UK.

Over the years we have enjoyed working on privately commissioned dwellings, notable past projects include Baggy House, Devon; Lighthouse, Belper; and more recently completed projects at Ashley Lane, Leaf House, North London; and Winterbank, Berkshire. Tenders were invited for Wing House, Rutland, July 2010. Feasibility studies are also currently underway for projects in Belgravia, Richmond and Castle Carey.

Commercial Schemes underway include Church Walk which started on site in February 2010, 157-165 Camden High Street and 130 Junction Road, which are due to start in late summer 2010.

Feasibility study commissions include Harrow Arts Centre, the redevelopment of Armagh Gaol, Bermondsey over station development and a number of Art House cinema projects for City Screen. School projects include a new Dormitory Block and Music Building at Maidwell Hall School, Northamptonshire.

Providence Row is a charity providing facilities for the homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless. We are delighted to be working on a new Day Centre, providing Workshops and an Arts Centre designed by Featherstone Young Architects.

We are pleased to be involved in the refurbishment of the Craft Potters Association flagship Store in London. We are undertaking Quantity Surveying Services and CDM co-ordination. The Association is the recognised national body representing ceramic artists in the U.K. The Store will comprise a viewing gallery/shop and also be home to one of the world's leading journals on contemporary ceramics.

Ongoing work with Transport for London involves BHA project managers, CDM co-ordinators and quantity surveyors undertaking various head office accommodation projects.

RECENT PROJECTS

The new £3.5m Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Prestatyn, North Wales opened in February 2009. This Burrell Foley Fischer designed scheme offers a truly modern arts and entertainment venue with superb facilities for the people of Denbighshire. The Scala is Wales’ first fully digital cinema and we are delighted to be involved. In May 2010 the project won the RICS 2010 Community Benefit Award.

The official opening of the New Music Building at Sherborne School, Dorset took place on 2 July 2010 amidst an extensive festival of music. The project was designed by ORMS Architects with BHA appointed quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator.

BHA was delighted to assist De Beers (UK) Limited with the corporate relocation of its London headquarters. Work was undertaken in 22 phases from April 2008 to February 2009. Business continued in a highly sensitive and security conscious environment throughout the project. This involved meticulous planning, working closely with the client, contractor (Overbury plc), architect (Magyar Marsoni) and services consultant (Troup Bywaters + Anders). We are currently involved in follow on works.

BHA continued its twenty year long relationship with The King’s Fund by providing project and cost management services to remodel the conference and library facilities within their grade 2 listed Cavendish Square headquarters. Working closely with Panter Hudspith Architects the scope of work includes a 200 person auditorium, upgrade of existing seminar facilities and reception, the relocation of the existing library and linking the facilities with a glass conservatory within the existing courtyard area. The project was opened by The King’s Fund’s President HRH Prince Charles in June 2009.

Broad Street Apartments, Bath – this project encompasses the renovation of Grade II listed and Georgian buildings to provide three retail units and the creation of 10 residential apartments over three floors above. BHA was appointed quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator. The apartments were pre-sold before completion in June 2010.

Wieden + Kennedy is one of the largest independently owned advertising agencies in the world and BHA was quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator on the fit-out of its London headquarters, completed summer 2009.

Visitor Centre – Ray Park Redbridge. Designed by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects. This zero carbon exemplar building for London Borough of Redbridge was officially opened in November 2009.

The TreeHouse Trust is the national charity for autism education, based in Muswell Hill, North London. Burke Hunter Adams was appointed to act as the client’s representative. The Architects were Penoyre & Prasad.

OTHER NEWS

BHA has a joint venture with BSSEC providing low carbon consultancy to business that is accredited by the Carbon Trust.

We continue to assist parties involved in construction projects to resolve disputes that have arisen. This includes senior staff being appointed as expert witnesses for quantum matters when disputes are litigated.

Craig Baldwin has been appointed Managing Director of BHA Health and Safety Solutions Limited, offering practical and independent health and safety advice on meeting corporate requirements under the health and safety regulations.

ACHIEVEMENTS

BHA is delighted to be consultant on two projects (below) receiving awards at the 50th Anniversary of the Civic Trust Awards, held at the Emirates Stadium.
