CURRENT PROJECTS - 2011/12

Following the successful completion of TreeHouse School for children with autism in Muswell Hill North London we are now at the preliminary stage of the design and development of a pioneer College for senior students with autism for the charity Ambitious about Autism and Enfield College at Enfield College’s existing campus in North London. Working with architects KSS our role is to provide both project and cost management services.

We continue our 15 year working relationship with Bank of New York Mellon providing project and cost management services on fitting out of offices projects to suit their business needs in Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin and also at One Wall Street in New York and at premises in Los Angeles.

We are pleased to be project and cost managing the strategic space review of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists headquarters at Sussex Place in Regents Park London. Working with architects Barr Gazetas proposals will include the complete modernisation and extension of existing office facilities and modification of current reception, library, bookshop and catering facilities into a new ‘heart space’ integrating the reception with a café, meeting areas, business lounge and information centre for joint use of staff, members and visitors.

We are acting as an advisor to The Friends of Benjamin Franklin in the feasibility for the extension of the Grade 1 Listed Friends of Benjamin Franklin Museum in Craven Street off the Strand in London.

Over the years we have enjoyed working on privately commissioned dwellings, notable past projects include Baggy House, Devon; Lighthouse, Belper; and more recently completed projects at Ashley Lane, Leaf House, Lincoln Parade; North London; and Winterbank, Berkshire. Wing House, Rutland, is currently on site and due to be completed in spring 2012. Projects in Pelham Crescent and Carlyle Square, SW1 are on site and due to complete spring 2012.

We are working with Nicols Brown Webber Architects and Henry Pollard Construction to provide an extension to boarding House facilities at Sherborne School Dorset, due to complete in August 2012. Tender were returned in November 2011 for a new girls House at Maidwell Preparatory school, Northamptonshire and works are due to commence on site on this ORMS Architects designed scheme early 2012.

In September 2011 we were appointed by The Story Museum, Oxford, as part of their ambitious re development plans. Working with Purcell Millar Triton and Rambol the first phase is due to be complete in 2014.

11 Netherhall Gardens, Hampstead, a 23,500 sqft luxury apartment scheme commissioned by Urbanista Developments Limited and Designed by PKS architects and Price and Myers and Atelier 10 engineers is due to commence on site early 2012.

Feasibility study commissions underway include the redevelopment of Armagh Gaol, Northern Ireland for the Prices Regeneration Trust and The Osborne Property Group. Bermondsey over station development and a number of Art House cinema projects for City Screen and a new music School at Maidwell Preparatory School and a new extension to Sussex House School, Belgravia.

Providence Row is a charity providing facilities for the homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless. We are delighted to have helped with the new Day Centre which completed in November 2011, providing Workshops and an Arts Centre designed by Featherstone Young Architects.

We are pleased to be involved in the refurbishment of the Craft Potters Association flagship Store in London. We are undertaking Quantity Surveying Services and CDM co-ordination. The Association is the recognised national body representing ceramic artists in the U.K. The Store will comprise a viewing gallery/shop and also be home to one of the world's leading journals on contemporary ceramics.

Ongoing work with Transport for London involves BHA project managers, CDM co-ordinators and quantity surveyors undertaking various head office accommodation projects.

OTHER RECENT PROJECTS

As part of our ongoing work for Bank of New York Mellon in 2010-2011 we acted as project managers for Category ‘B’ fitting out of 30,000 SF of offices in Manchester, the phased refurbishment of 80,000 SF of Offices at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf and creation of client meeting areas and refitting of 40,00SF of offices in phases at Queen Victoria Street, London. Our appointment for these projects included project and cost management and CDM coordination services.

Church Walk was completed in December 2011, our latest project with City Screen, Hackney Picture House which opened to the public late October 2011.

The new £3.5m Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Prestatyn, North Wales opened in February 2009. This Burrell Foley Fischer designed scheme offers a truly modern arts and entertainment venue with superb facilities for the people of Denbighshire. The Scala is Wales’ first fully digital cinema and we are delighted to be involved. In May 2010 the project won the RICS 2010 Community Benefit Award.

The grand opening of the New Music Building at Sherborne School, Dorset took place on 2 July 2010 amidst an extensive festival of music. The project was designed by ORMS Architects with BHA appointed quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator.

BHA was delighted to help De Beers (UK) Limited, on the corporate relocation of its London headquarters. Works were carried out on 22 phases from April 2008 to February 2009. Business continued in highly sensitive and security conscious environment throughout the project. This involved meticulous planning working closely with the client, contractor (Overbury plc), architect (Magyar Marsoni) and services consultant (Troup Bywaters + Anders). We are currently involved in follow on works.

BHA continued its twenty year long relationship with The King’s Fund by providing project and cost management services to update the conference and library facilities within their grade 2 listed Cavendish Square, headquarters. Working closely with Panter Hudspith Architects the scope of work includes a 200P auditorium, upgrade of existing seminar facilities and reception, the relocation of the existing library and to link the facilities the construction of a glass conservatory within the existing courtyard area. The project was opened by The King’s Fund’s President HRH Prince Charles in June 2009.

Broad Street Apartments, Bath – this project encompasses the renovation of Grade II listed and Georgian buildings to provide three retail units and the creation of 10 residential apartments over three floors above. BHA was appointed quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator. The apartments were pre-sold before completion in June 2010.

Wieden + Kennedy is one of the largest independently owned advertising agencies in the world and BHA was quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator on the fit-out of its London headquarters, completed summer 2009.

Visitor Centre – Ray Park Redbridge. Designed by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects. Zero Carbon exemplar building for London Borough of Redbridge was officially opened in November 2009.

The TreeHouse Trust is the national charity for autism education, based in Muswell Hill, North London. Burke Hunter Adams was appointed to act as the client’s representative. The Architects were Penoyre & Prasad.

OTHER NEWS

BHA has formed a joint venture consortium with BSSEC to offer low carbon consultancy to business, accredited by the Carbon Trust.

We continue to assist parties involved in construction projects to resolve disputes that have arisen. This includes parties being appointed as an expert witness for quantum matters when disputes are litigated.

Craig Baldwin has been appointed Managing Director of BHA Health and Safety Solutions Limited, offering practical and independent health and safety advice on meeting corporate requirements under the health and safety regulations.

ACHIEVEMENTS

BHA is delighted to be consultant on two projects (below) receiving awards at the 50th Anniversary of the Civic Trust Awards, held at the Emirates Stadium.
